On Saturday, March 24, 2012, the Sprint into Spring 5K Run and 1 Mile Kids Fun Run was held at the Crown Colony Country Club here in Lufkin. This event was proudly presented by the Junior League of Lufkin, and all race proceeds went to benefit the league in their work in the community.
The 1 Mile Kids Fun Run began at 8:00 a.m. and was specifically geared towards children ages 5–12 years old. The 5K race started at 8:30 a.m. and participants ranged in age from 10 years to 80 plus! Runners were not the only ones joining in that day; walkers were also welcome. Time-keeping “chips” (devices attached to participants that clocked exact times of completion) were available to time both the 3.1 mile and 1 mile races. Awards were presented to the first male and first female to cross the finish line for the 5K and 1 Mile race, as well as medals to the top three finishers in each age division. Keeping safety first, there were two aid stations for the 5K race and one for the fun run.
159 runners crossed the finish line, and 25 kiddos proudly completed the Fun Run. It was a gorgeous day to be outside!
